A Light and Letters

Two things happened yesterday.  I got a parcel from Piers, always happy when a parcel arrives, it had a small light and tripod in it.  He saw it and thought it might come in handy when photographing crafty items.  And I made enough Christmas cards to be able to send off those that are travelling to Scotland to family.  Hoping they make it there on time.  I am making something a little different this year for my cards.

Block Decisions

Arne & Carlos started a Quarantine Knit Along back in March or April and I knit the first 18 blocks and made them into a mat for under my computer.  The blocks kept coming, so I started again and knit all the blocks in different yarn and on smaller needles (and the first blocks were double knitted, these are not).  I started using five contrast yarns and a main colour cream.  I lined them up and worked through each colour on each block alternating the background colour of the block:  one was cream the background, contrast the motif, next one was contrast the background, cream the motif.  Hoping for a checkerboard pattern in the end.  Here are some of the blocks layed out together and the checkerboard pattern is not obvious.  So now I am wondering whether I should knit plain squares of each colour to put in between the blocks with motifs.  I don't think I have enough yarn to do that, and it's hand dyed yarn.  I'm thinking if I order some more from the dyer, not being exactly the same wouldn't matter, they would blend together anyway, or should I do plain cream squares in between?  Lots to consider.

No. 37 The Cat

This week's block in Arne & Carlos' SIT and KNIT for a BIT is a cat.  I started this one and really didn't like the floats at the back, so pulled it out and restarted.  Mostly just knit the cream block and then duplicate stitched the contrast.
I have been quiet with posting lately because I am working on my Christmas cards.  Was going to show sneak peeks, but thought it will be better as a surprise when family and friends open the envelope.

Goose/Duck

I just realised it has been just over a year since Piers and I went on our UK trip and I attended a Julie Arkell Workshop.  It was a great holiday and so glad we managed to do it before 2020 arrived.  The goose lives downstairs under a dome.  I know I made her as a goose but sometimes she looks like a duck.

New Books

Two new books arrived yesterday.  I haven't bought any books while in lockdown, I realised I really like to have a look through books before buying them, I like the hunt.  I bought these two lovely books from Can Do Books without seeing them because I already have books by these authors and I have seen enough snippets on Instagram to know I would like them, and I do.  Beautiful and inspirational.  The first is Textiles Transformed by Mandy Patullo, the second, Textile Travels by Anne Kelly. And I do like the Batsford cover treatment, a soft treatment, just right for textile books.

I'ts Me

Based on a photo of when I was about 3 years old I finally finished this doll.  I have been procrastinating about how I was going to do the head for months.  She was going to have wings and be a Christmas Tree topper, but I decided I really like the back and didn't want to cover it up, so a freestanding doll she is.  She stands 23cm tall.

All The Trees

94.  That's how many trees I have made.  finished now, and while that number sounds like a lot, it doesn't look like a lot on the bookshelf.  I was putting the trees around the craft room when I finished each one, but it started to feel cluttered so I moved them to the bookshelf.

Cohort

Yesterday's block from Arne & Carlo's SIT and KNIT for a BIT is called Cohort.  A new word for them, a group of people.  They couldn't decide if these people are dancing or going crazy.  I'm going with dancing.

Bookends & More

Had a lovely day yesterday on Mothers Day.  We went for a drive to Geelong for some lunch and a rummage around a 2nd Hand/Antiques place. ...
