It's a Boat

The current project is a boat.  It now has some portholes, doors and vents.

The Current Project

I have covered the wooden shape I whittled the other day in knitting.  The pins are holding it all while the glue dries.

Pastel Boxes

My husband made these two pastel boxes, one for oil pastels, one for soft pastels, many years ago.  I was clearing a cupboard in the garage where they had been for too long.  They are really useful boxes.  The layers are segmented to hold the colours separately, the layers stack, a lid on top, and then leather straps hold the whole box together and helps carry them.  Having all the colours played out is great when drawing.  They are now in the craft room, not sure when I will use them, but at least they are closer.

Home for Cake and Medals

My husband is competing in the Victorian Cycling Masters Track Championships this weekend.  And he got silver in the time trial event.  I made a Plum Crumble Cake for dessert last night.  Good luck in today'e events Piers.

Fibresmith Trip

I still had a gift card for Fibresmith from my birthday, so popped in yesterday and bought some lovely goodies.  Fabric, yarn and thread.  There is a plan for the darkest blue, the rest will happily sit in the stash.  And all the yarn has been wrapped into balls, love my new table and wooden swift.

Let's Try Again

This yarn has been started on quite a few jumpers, but then ripped out and started on something else.  I am in between projects at the moment and picked up the latest wip, only to not like it and ripped it out to start again.  I like the yarn and the colour so I would like to make a cardi or jumper using it.

New Book

I bought this book a little while ago for a friend and always looked at it when I was at Can Do Books.  Yesterday while I was there I thought I should just buy it.  Great inspiration for fabric or paper manipulation.

Meet Ooma

My husband's Grandmother, Marie Gilmartin Byrnes, his Mum's Mum.  I took inspiration from this photograph of her in some kind of play or church thing.  Marie is on the far right and I am guessing around 10 years old, so it makes it around 1920.  The doll is for display, not playing as there are weights and wires.

Pom Pom Maker

Had a wander around Daiso yesterday and found a pom pom maker.  Worth a try.  It was easy to wind, but really difficult to get a nice tight knot around the wraps, and then easy to cut off the frame.  The pom pom came out a very strange shape, but you need to give all pom poms a bit of a trim anyway.  Tying the knot is the most important thing as it holds everything together and is often difficult to do, but nigh near impossible on this one.

Doll’s Head

Crocheted the head yesterday. Here it is before the hair. She does have ears, you just can’t see them at the moment.

New Two-Seater

While in Sydney I found a very sweet two-seater chair.  It was quickly claimed by the sheep dog.

Weekend In Sydney

My husband and I were in Sydney for the weekend.  We went to celebrate Piers' 40th Anniversary of joining the Royal Australian Navy.  On Friday night we went on a harbour cruise, partners invited, and on Saturday night the boys had a special dinner at the Australia Club.  A nice family lunch on Sunday and we flew home last night.  A lovely weekend.

And Two More Reindeer

I made these two, the one on the left is 4py on 3mm hook, on the right 8ply on 3.5mm hook as examples for selling patterns at Can Do Books.  Of all the reindeer left after the window, none were pattern examples.

Sewing Trousers

I finally sewed some trousers from a pattern I bought at Fibresmith last year.  Simple drawstring pants.

Border Collie

This was a kit I bought at a craft show last year.  It is a Toft kit, Kerry Lord pattern.  I took it to Can Do Books on Tuesday to start, wasn't the best plan, but I needed something to do.  It is difficult to count, chat and listen at the same time.  I ended up just working on the legs, not too much counting.  He is quite cute and now over next to the Westie from another similar kit.

Embroidered Wrapped Balls

I made these two wrapped balls earlier in the year for a commission from my friend Glynis.  I can show them now because they were given as Christmas presents.  The brief was two wrapped balls, one in sky blue, one in Tiffany green.  As soon as I heard Tiffany, got to have a bit of bling.

A New Table

I had a sofa bed in the craft room (sorry forgot to take a before picture) and I was in need of a work table.  If I have something to cut out or lay out I have been using our bed.  I was always worried I would cut our bedding.  I was also too low for my back and difficult to work on a long project.  The sofa bed was never used.  We tried to use it once but couldn't pull it out because of all the stuff under it.  So off to IKEA for a table that needed to be no bigger than the sofa bed.  We ended up getting two trestles with extensions and a top that matches the little sewing table.  It is narrower than the sofa bed and I moved some tubs that were around the room to underneath it, and rearranged a few other things, and a lot of culling, the whole set up makes the room seem not so crowded.  I cut out a pattern last night and the height seems good, but I can drop it down if it feels too high,

The Reindeer Return

Last week when I was at Can Do Books I picked up the reindeer that did not sell from the Christmas window.  Thirteen little and one big reindeer.  I stopped at the supermarket on the way home and forgot I had a passenger in the back seat when I got back to the car.

Duncan and the Doggies

The working photos of Duncan, Latte and Muggles.  I started to needle felt the dogs but realised I don't have the skills to do that successfully yet, so then crocheted them.  I did like how Latte's paws turned out, so I kept them and crocheted around them.

Bookends & More

Had a lovely day yesterday on Mothers Day.  We went for a drive to Geelong for some lunch and a rummage around a 2nd Hand/Antiques place. ...
