5mm Needles

I wanted to get on with knitting some trees.  I ordered a new set of ChiaoGoo minis, blue set a couple of weeks ago.  I was waiting for them to come before starting knitting trees.  The order was coming from South Australia  It got to Melbourne overnight.  Two weeks later I still hadn't received my parcel so decided to use my 5mm dpn's.  I find that on small projects circulars are easier to use since my hands are quite small, as you can tell from the photo the dpn's are quite cumbersome.  I decided to get on with the knitting anyway as there had been no update on the parcel since arriving in Melbourne.  The moment I cast on and did a row I got a text saying my parcel would arrive today, typical.  Anyway my nice new needles arrived, and some yarn.

Christmas Jar Lids

Yesterday is snowed in Victoria and I made snowmen.  Well, little felt snowmen.  I recently received quite a few large Moccona coffee jars, theirs size 21.5 x 11.5cm.  I needed a bit of a change from making trees, so jar lids it is.

My apologies for the layout, Blogger seems to want it this way no matter how many times I try to fix it.

Knitted Edge Update

I haven't worked on this everyday, but on and off in-between tree making.  So last night I turned the third corner.  I have another corner and 18 pattern repeats to go.

Coiled Trees

I made these trees using an automatic knitter.  It makes a tube of four stitches, you just crank the handle.  The bases, where the trunk goes into, are crocheted and then I started coiling and stitching the tubes.  They make wonky, but characterful trees.

Lacey Trees

My friend Janette gave me a piece of crocheted lace.  I dyed part of it green and made little trees with felt underneath.  The green of the crochet doesn't really show up once over the felt.

More Trees

I did this group of trees production style, step 1 to all of them, step 2 to all, and so on.  Not sure which way is better production line or finishing each one at a time, it is just different and breaks it up a bit.  Going to crochet and knit some trees now, which are individually done, except for the last stage of glueing to the tree trunk bases.

Butterfly Too Block

The next block in Arne & Carlos's SIT and KNIT for a BIT is No 31, called Butterfly Too.  I'm knitting my blocks with 5ply yarn on 2.5mm needles.

Lots of Little Trees

I don't know how many trees make a forest, but the numbers are coming along.

Another Knitted Block

Arne & Carlos have returned to a weekly podcast like the ones they did in Quarantine Knitting, now called SIT and KNIT for a Bit.  There will be a new block each week and here is the first one, The Poppy.  Clearly I haven't knitted it with a red flower, trying to keep to the colours of the previous blocks.

Tree Bases

The new tree bases arrived yesterday so the two that were in need have been finished.  I bought the tree slices from Stringybark Supplies, which are in Warburton.

Knitted Edge and a Tree

Turned another corner and worked a couple more pattern repeats on the knitted edge.  And embroidered another tree, a larger one waiting for the new bases to arrive.

Two More Trees

A felt one with embroidery, which is waiting for it's base.  I have ordered more wood slices, some in the same size and some larger.  And a little knitted tree.  I haven't knitted one before and I'm not sure I like the roundness at the bottom of the green bit.  It might be because the other trees all have a more defined edge.

Little Trees

A felt one with a little embroidery and a crocheted little tree.  I made little trees to decorate my Christmas presents in 2018.  Thought I should make some more.  I have a few bases left over from before and ordered some more.

This has been coming along.  One more repeat of the pattern and it's time to turn the next corner.

Little Red Cars

So the next thing of projects to finish in the craft cupboard are eight little red cars.  I think I started these last year, made the little cardboard cars, cut out felt for all to them, windows and cardboard wheels.  Sewed one car, then stopped (not the finished car, that was made a few years ago).  Bagged them up and put them aside.  Not sure if they will be completed or bagged up again.  After these there are only two unfinished projects in the cupboard, a kit for needle felting a little dog, and the Quarantine Knitting blocks (I am waiting to see if there will be any more added, so they are fine for the moment).

Bookends & More

Had a lovely day yesterday on Mothers Day.  We went for a drive to Geelong for some lunch and a rummage around a 2nd Hand/Antiques place. ...
